From Philomathean Society
Philo has a long association with the Classics, born while the Classical curriculum formed the heart of a university education. In (year-here) three Philos published the first complete English translation of the trilingual (Greek, Egyptian Hieroglyphic, and Demotic) Rosetta Stone. The Classics Committee seeks to uphold this proud tradition; in the works are a republication of the original Rosetta Report and investigations into Etruscan religious rituals. Other nebulous ideas seeking to coalesce are readings of Greek and Latin poetry or some limited production of dramatic works. Those with even the slightest interest in such elegant matters would do well to contact Mr. Diffendale as quickly and as enthusiatically as possible.
The Society's motto, Sic Itur Ad Astra, is drawn from a line by the Roman poet Virgil. Its most literal translation would be, "Thus it is gone to the stars..."
