This year, on Thursday, March 27, the second edition of the official Philomathean Not-an-Oratorical-Contest-at-All Oratorical Contest was presented! The theme was:
IF I WERE KING
What would you do if you were in charge? Would you come up with a better health plan than Hillary's as President of the United States? Take over Google as CEO of Microsoft? Or create a Free Student Ice Cream Day as President of Penn?
Contestants were asked to tell us and our panel of distinguished faculty judges what they'd want to be in charge of and what they'd do in five minutes or less for the chance to win $100. The event itself was open to the public and delightful refreshments, both spiritual and comestible in nature, were served.
The Runner-Up of the Contest was Mr. Andre Gregori, who told us that he would implement Johnathan Swift's A Modest Proposal a damn sight better than James I!
The Winner of the Contest was Ms. Nina Johnson, who told us that if she was King she would create a Ministry of Truth who would figure out the answers to all of life's annoying questions, like if there were any objective moral values, and so let people get on with enjoying life rather than getting hung up on philosophy!
If you have any questions about the Contest, please contact the Oratory Chair.
