Join us for the 3rd meeting of the 521st session, even if it’s only been a week since the last one. We are just insatiable meeting fiends, apparently.

LitEx, “The role of semaphorins in retinotectal mapping (or, How does a fish brain get made?)” by our lovely 2C, Laura Lee.

Join us for the 2nd meeting of the 521st session, featuring prospective presentations, a rhyme review haiku, flamingos, a celebration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 115th birthday a day early, egregious poetry, cheese and reports from the Music Appreciation Committee, the (Very)ⁿ Funny Joke Committee, and the “It Came From Beneath the Art Gallery” Committee. All very interesting, believe you me.

The meeting will also feature a Literary Exercise by Mr. Taylor Williams, on Jacques Derrida. Come for the paradoxes, stay for the deconstruction!

Please come to the First Meeting of the 521st Session of the Philomathean Society, at which the Moderator has promised the presence of at least two (2) flamingos.  We also wish to welcome the equally-as-august Mr. Thadeus Dowad; his LitEx, “Who’s Your Daddy? (A Power Struggle in German Art),” will, on the one hand, explore how the artistic evolution of famed German expressionist Otto Dix is metonymic of socio-political developments in the new Weimar Republic and, on the other hand, demonstrate how both of these artistic and political transformations ought to be understood as the products of paternalistic struggles.  Or something of That Sort.

Come to the Third Meeting of the 520th Session of the Philomathean Society! Tonight the Society and its phriends will welcome an embassy of Australians, here as part of the StatesMUN project of the United Nations Youth Association of Australia (www.unya.org.au).

In addition, Mr. Alec Webley will present a Literary Exercise on the recent Egyptian protests, entitled “Why the West has nothing to fear from Arab democracy.”

As well as introducing guests and prospective members to the Society (if you’re interested in applying this semester, this is definitely a meeting to attend!), the Society will consider the insights of First Censor and Criminology and History major Sam Bieler (C’ 12) on “A Mind to Kill: The Psychology of Criminal Madmen and the Arizona Massacre.” What was going through Jared Lee Loughner’s mind when he contemplated the shooting? How do criminologists deal with pathologies like those on display in the Arizona massacre and other political assassinations? Come to Meeting 1 to find out!
